The list of things an iPad can do that the Fire Max 11 can't is longer than I have space for here. With a base price of $230, you're only $30 away from a 9th-gen iPad. If you're all in on all things Amazon, the Fire Max 11 ( 5/10, WIRED Review) is the company's most powerful tablet. To get rid of that, you'll need to spend $15 more for the version without “special offers.” Whichever you choose, Amazon will serve up advertisements on the lock screen. You can choose between 32-GB or 64-GB models (with a microSD slot on both so you can add up to 1 TB of storage if you need more space). After that, you can set your HD 10 on a stand to essentially turn it into an Echo Show. To use Alexa's Show Mode, swipe down on the notification overlay and check the Show Mode box. As with the Fire HD 8, you can also shout commands at Alexa from across the room. The Fire HD 10 has a larger screen with more pixels (1080p) than its siblings, making it better for watching videos. None of Google's office apps work on the Fire HD 10, not even in the browser. I have not had a chance to test the new keyboard, but with the old version, working on the Fire HD 10 isn't bad, as long as you don't need Google apps. The old Fire HD 10 Plus, while still available for $180, appears to have been discontinued. There's a new keyboard option as part of the Keyboard Case Bundle ($190) if you want to do more than consume Prime content. The new model sports the same screen and 3 GB of RAM. We have not had a chance to try the latest model yet, but based on previous releases we think it's safe to say it's marginally faster. ![]() Amazon refreshed it in 2023 with a slightly faster processor (the company claims a 25 percent speed increase). The Fire HD 10 remains our favorite of Amazon's tablets.
